TCU almost brought back a coordinator this offseason. Here’s why it didn’t work out

By Big Steaming Pile

The two coaches who oversaw the most prolific offense in TCU’s history were nearly reunited, but the marriage between current TCU co-offensive coordinators Sonny Cumbie and Doug Meacham ended for a reason.

TCU coach Gary Patterson discussed with Meacham about rejoining his staff for this season, but sources said some TCU coaches on offense were not crazy about the idea.

Sources said Meacham was eager and willing to return.

After Patterson’s weekly press conference on Tuesday, the coach would only say that there was some “personality issues” and that he didn’t want to cause any problems for his offensive coaching staff.

Glad he didn't come back as co-OC. Now should Cumbie depart after this season ...

We don't want Meacham back.

The best offensive CO we could ever have is our HC. He is more involved on that side of the ball this year than I can remember since he's been at TCU - that's why we are running the ball and doing pretty well at it.

actually we're running the ball pretty well because we have two of the best backs in college football and a very good OL.

Coaching relationships analogize pretty easily to a marriage, because of the extraordinary commitment required, the hours, the kids, etc. . . Once you are divorced, maybe you see each other out somewhere because you run in the same circles, still know the same people. . .

Maybe, one random evening on the shady side of town you get together, have a little too much wine, and end up back on the couch watching film together. . . But you DON'T re-sign a contract or do anything else to re-commit to something you already know doesn't work. . . ESPECIALLY if the old one can't get along with the younger, prettier one.

Are you drunk?

I still kinda confused on this stance by some people. Are 2 best teams and offense in the Big 12 era were with Meacham at the helm. Yeah, 2016 was a down year but maybe that would have happened any no matter who was at the helm.

Also some our offensive coaches who were vocally against this need to put up or shut up.
