GoFrogs: Volleyball drops match to Florida State

ORT WORTH -- TCU Volleyball (3-3) lost a three-set match to Florida State (3-2) Sunday afternoon in front of another packed house inside the Rickel. It was the sixth sellout crowd to open the season, marking the most consecutive full houses to begin a season in program history.

"We're going to learn from this weekend," head coach Jill Kramer said. "We've got a young group that is still learning how to come back and compete every single day and every single point. We had a great crowd today, biggest one of the season, well over 1,800 people. We're really lucky to have that support."

TCU NOTABLES:
  • This was the sixth straight sellout to begin the season for TCU Volleyball, the longest sellout streak to begin a season in program history.
  • Freshman outside hitter Audrey Nalls led the team in kills for the fifth time this season and third time this weekend, finishing with 18 kills.
  • Nalls also led the team, along with Berklie Baker, with 10 digs. Giving her the second double-double of her Horned Frog career.
  • She has now recorded 15 or more kills in half of her matches at TCU.
  • Freshman setter Irem Uçar finished with 20 assists, she delivered at least 20 assists in all three matches this weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (FSU, 25-20): The Frogs had a hard time getting the offense off the ground, allowing FSU to jump out to a 15-6 advantage. TCU fought back to draw within four points, but FSU held on to take the set. Nalls led the Horned Frog resurgence with five kills, six digs and a block.

Set 2 (FSU, 25-20): The TCU offense carried its late first set momentum into the second, starting off with seven kills and .500 hitting to claim an 8-6 lead. However, a 7-0 Seminole run swayed the set in FSU's favor as TCU trailed, 12-17. That run proved to be the deciding factor as the Noles took the second set. Nalls was the driving force for TCU all set as she finished with a career-best nine kills.

Set 3 (FSU, 25-18): Three kills from Nalls helped the Frogs keep it close in the early going, 12-12, but Florida State would take the lead on the next point and held it tightly for the rest of play. FSU finished the set by winning seven of the final eight points to secure the win.

UP NEXT:
TCU prepares to host the final of three non-conference tournaments when the Horned Frogs host Miami and Auburn in the Add-Ran Cup. The opening match for TCU will come against Miami on Friday, September 13 at 6 p.m. The match will be broadcast on FSSW+.

Sat next to some player families this weekend, and they believed she'll be back in 3-4 weeks. Afedo Manyang went down in game 2 against FAU, but was on the bench the following day without a boot. Hopefully she'll be back next weekend. In several sets they started 5 Freshmen. As good a recruiting class as they were, they're still Freshmen who haven't been playing together but a few weeks. If they stay away from the dreaded transfer portal the future is bright.
