The D is the best book downtown for sure, but I think you are giving the others a bad rap. Westgate is far better than it was since the remodel. It still has the unfortunate stigma of attracting a bunch of riff raff, but its still among my top books in Las Vegas.

South Point isn't as great as the hype, yes, but the only reason you should go there is because its a 24 hour book. When other books close at 9 or 10 there are times I can't get a bet down anywhere else other than South Point whether it be late at night or early in the morning. The seating however sucks balls and the screens are something out of 2009.

Anyway, I seem to mostly bounce around between Red Rock and Green Valley Ranch these days with the occassional visit to Westgate, Treasure Island and Palms.

I agree with you about Derek Stephens, he is doing things right, and more people need to be like him here. But, its a corporate town now. Shareholders run things. Hence why we get [ steaming pile of Orgeron ] like resort fees and paid parking as well as generous comps being a thing of the past.

I disagree with you about smoking in books. scheiss that [ steaming pile of Orgeron ]. I don't want to leave a book smelling like an ashtray. You can still smoke at Westgate you just have to go inside the smoking room.
You mention "riff raff" at the Westgate? You should hang out at Sam's Town where I've become the "Hero to the Homeless" by handing out all the free drink coupons I get to the sketchy guys with backpacks who sit in the book all day and night watching games. Occasionally, the cops will come in and arrest one or two of them. The Boulder Strip area has deteriorated badly since I used to stay at the old Showboat in the '90s but the comps at places like Sam's are phenomenal so I still stay there. I get a $150/day food allowance so I'll treat you to a nice steak dinner at the Angry Butcher the next time I'm in town!

You're right about all the corporate crap ruining Vegas. The Strip casinos are the only ones in the entire country that charge for parking. MGM started that and it's truly an outrage. And there's just as many crazies on the Strip these days as there is downtown. You have to watch yourself everywhere in that city now; I understand it was a lot better when the Mafia ran the town.

What do you honestly expect from Boulder Highway though? Of course those places will be riff raff magnets. It's Boulder Highway.

Westgate attracts more riff raff than the average strip/strip area book because of how accessible it is. The book has its own entrance and parking lot. I've always joked that each time I walk into the Westgate Book I raise the average IQ inside by 500%. However its not as bad as it used to be - around 2012 or so the Westgate Book was really bad when it came to riff raff.

The only time I go to the strip is very early in the morning, when there are no crowds, no Mexicans working off their coyote debt handing out call girl cards, and a very limited number of bums and hustlers. It's extremely peaceful and serene. Apart from that though, forget it.

Any idea what the max bet is on these prop bets?
The stated max at the D is $3,000 for Power Five schools and $2,000 for Group of Five teams. But, as I mentioned with glee, the D let me bet over the max without changing the odds. Moreover, the official $3,000 max at the D is two-to-three times the max at most, if not all, other casinos in Vegas. I don't bet in online or off-shore casinos so I have no idea what their maximums are.
