FWST: Doug Meacham hired as OC for XFL’s St. Louis team

By Drew Davison

Doug Meacham has landed his next coaching gig.

Meacham, the Arlington Sam Houston product who went on to become offensive coordinator for colleges such as TCU and Kansas, is joining the XFL team based in St. Louis as its offensive coordinator.

Meacham served in that capacity for KU last season before being fired midseason. Prior to joining KU, Meacham served as TCU’s co-offensive coordinator from 2014-16.

Good for him. He’s a smart guy but Imho he’s has never tried to evolve his Air raid principles...Even Leach has expanded on it.

Tell that to our own OC. Meacham only really learned about the air raid from Holgorsen 1 year at Oklahoma State.

Cumbie actually played under Leach for 4 years and then was a GA for a year before Leach was let go.

However, I think Cumbie’s playing career hindered his coaching potential. While Cumbie was playing professionally, Lincoln Riley was an assistant under Leach for 7 years.

Cumbie has been a learn on the job situation and it’s been one of the more failed experiences of the GP era. Don’t get me wrong he’s extremely sharp but calling plays in the heat of battle has not gone well. Hoping to see the last 3 years of this experience start to yield results...

It’s a disgrace that Meacham has been unemployed this long. Wish fences could have been mended and he could have been brought on as a consultant. Sharp guy.

disgrace? curious wording.

do you know if he was offered any other jobs or opportunities after kansas?

Cumbie will have another chance this year to show that he can scheme games and call plays well.
