What's an Instagram influencer? Sounds like someone who peddles propaganda to manipulate people? Maybe I'm too cynical.
I believe it’s based on the number of followers on various social media platforms. Can be pretty lucrative if you have enough followers. Big price to pay though selling your soul.

Based on Satis' description of them I wonder if they ever had souls to sell.

Got a buddy whose BIL has been dating an “influencer” for a long time now. Because she has so many followers she will get companies to pay her $1-5k per post and mention/use a product/service. Basically like TV endorsements but with less famous people. She has approx 500,000 followers.

Don't focus on the influencers, focus on the fact that "normal" people are the ones who support their lifestyle. All the idiots out there follow these morons for some reason and make it profitable. If people would ignore them, then they wouldn't exist.

I’ve discovered a racket that’s even crazier than this Instagram influencer phenomenon.

There is a category of YouTube video makers who go to various casinos and (with a first-person POV) video themselves playing slot machines. Some are attractive women, some are gay dudes, some are just regular joes and janes but all seem to get a ton of views. What’s crazy about this is that they’ll do live videos and get so many online tips (real money) from their viewers that they in essence play these slots for free and get to keep the money if they win.

These video makers are geniuses. Get the gambling addicts their fix while getting a paid-for trip to Vegas and potentially a big jackpot out of it Too with very little original expense.

Here’s an example:

I’m a first generation cattle owner, which is a hobby for me not a business, so outside of my large animal vet and a few ranchers I’ve met locally, I’ve been figuring things out on my own. I do follow a couple farm and ranch vloggers on YouTube and have definitely learned a few things.

But to your point, they do use “donations” to fund their projects. As the live videos are playing, there’s a little icon that pops up when people donate money and the dude will give them a shout out thank you. It’s incredible how much money they’ll get during a 10 minute video on culling a chicken or hanging a fence gate. Projects are often funded immediately.

I had always heard that casinos will not allow filming if they discover you are doing it. I'm shocked these people get to continue doing this.

They are getting paying customers who otherwise wouldn't go and are actively giving you free marketing... easier to overlook

i am truly not sure who would want to watch someone play slots.

correct me if i am wrong, but there is no strategy to playing slots, no real skill, no technique, and while i don't understand people who watch poker on television i recognize the cognitive part of the game.

slots? rock-paper-scissors has more strategy

Shoot, the El Cortez goes so far as to allow the "slotlady" account to come in and video herself playing table games for real money. The only catch is that there can't be anyone else at the table, she can't show the dealer's face, and she has to play a fairly high-minumum. No $5 blackjack. Usually she does $20-50 per hand.

I think it's great advertising for the casino because for an hour straight you see "El Cortez" on the table.

I love blackjack and kind of wish I could get the same gig.. especially if viewers are paying for her buy ins and she keeps the profits (if any).

I've started doing live streams on Periscope when I play gigs. It's great way for extra exposure and tips while not adding any responsibility on my side of the equation. Just turn the video on, tweet the link, and off we go. Some nights I'll get a fair amount of tip money rolling in which is great. You'd be surprised how many people use Periscope, especially since it was acquired by Twitter and it embeds into Twitter so easily.

Have you ever considered Twitch? I've watched a few musician streams on there. Having a gimmick or being a chick is best of course but it's a huge platform.

Agreed. If I want to watch people playing slots, I'll just go post up at the local methhead game room. It's probably a more interesting place anyway.
