TCU is losing another player to the transfer portal.

Freshman guard Kendric Davis announced plans to transfer on Monday via Twitter.

“Things don’t always go as we plan but God is in control,” Davis wrote. “With that being said, I will be transferring with three years of eligibility left. I will never forget the great fans at TCU.”

Did the story confirm the theory of academics being an issue?

As speculated earlier, it was confirmed that this was a grade issue. Nobody’s fault but KDs. And I liked him alot. Hope he does well but ultimately, can’t blame coaches here unless somehow they are giving the resources needed. Doubt that is the case.

I'm not disagreeing, but can you point us to the confirmation? I didn't catch it in this article...

How is it in today's world, coaches cant make sure that all of their players are doing ok in the classroom?
If I was your boss, could I make you go to work? I can highly MOTIVATE you to go to work, by paying fairly, creating a good work environment, or maybe threatening your employment.

But ultimately you are an adult and I as a boss would be unable to leave the office, go to your house, and drag you back with me. At least not without looking at kidnapping lol. Related is the equally true fact that I can't FORCE you to work while you're at work. I can again threaten your job, but I can't make your fingers type or your mind to be engaged.

if kendric was not part of the math and science magnet at sam houston he was in for a tougher jump in the class room than on the basketball court.

the school is rated near the bottom of tea's rankings for high schools in the state and one of the worst in hisd.

Exactly what my father said...himself a graduate of Sam Houston HS and then a teacher/baseball coach there many many years ago

Didn't HISD's school board have to be removed and administered by the State recently because they were in such bad shape? Being at the bottom of that district is really some kind of major distinction.

Edit- My memory's a little fuzzy, maybe they were simply on the verge of that, and on double-secret probation.

north forest got taken over by the state and then folded into hisd and i don't think academic performance has rocketed upwards.

hisd has massive debt issues, really got hit hard when they had to absorb a number of the katrina evacuees from new orleans, bad leadership, nepotism, need to consolidate some schools, and i can't wait to see what happens as you continue to have young professionals buy into the height areas.

they have a group of 10-15 schools that really are in bad shape and the state has threatened to take over the district if those schools don't improve, but i am not really sure what the answer is for some of those areas.

They check, they can’t literally walk everyone of the every class and sit there with them. At some point it’s the player’s responsibility to go.

Exactly!

The athletes are literally given every opportunity to be successful. They have all of the support in the world at TCU. In the end, the kids are the ones who have to go to class, stay organized (with help from learning specialists and academic coaches), take the tests (with help from tutors to prepare), and write the papers (with appropriate assistance from writing specialists). If they aren’t making grades, it is not because TCU isn’t doing everything in their power to help them reach that goal.

I haven't been to Heights in years but assumed that ship had long-since sailed. Read the last time I was down that way (about 6 months ago) that Fitzgerald's was having it's last call. Kinda sad.

Seems like a few of our recent recruits had a one and done attitude toward the classroom but didn’t have that skill set on the court

Gotta go to class and play school if you want to play ball at TCU

I think they were a couple like this, and unfortunately a few other followers who thought they didn’t need to go to class either.
