GoFrogs: TCU Season Comes To An End

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas scored three times in the first and never looked back, handing TCU a 6-0 loss in the NCAA Fayetteville Regional championship game Sunday night. The Horned Frogs were limited to just five hits in the contest.

The Rundown
Arkansas jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first. A Casey Martin base hit started a string of three straight Razorbacks to reach. With two on, Dominic Fletcher doubled in the first two runs of the game. A two-out double from Jack Kenley capped the scoring in the inning.

Jared Janczak settled into a groove and held Arkansas in check over the next three innings. He retired 11 of the next 12 batters he faced, tallying six strikeouts during that stretch.

A one-out single from Trevor Ezell set the table for Matt Goodheart's two-out, two-run home run that made it a 5-0 ballgame in favor of Arkansas.

TCU had its chances in the game. In the fourth with two outs, Johnny Rizer singled followed by a double from Zach Humphreys. The Razorbacks' starter Patrick Wicklander got out of the jam without allowing a run.

In the seventh, Bobby Goodloe doubled with one out, but was stranded on third.

The Razorbacks tacked on a run in the eighth to account for the final score.

Janczak struck out eight in his final start for the Horned Frogs. Augie Mihlbauer tossed a career-high 3 1/3 innings of relief. He allowed a run on three hits and struck out three.

Stat of the Game:
2 – TCU was shut out for just the second time this season.

• TCU falls to 55-38 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including a 33-20 mark in the NCAA Regional round.
• TCU played errorless baseball for the 21sttime this season.
• The TCU pitching staff registered double-digit strikeouts for the 27thtime this season.
• TCU didn't issue a walk in the contest. It's the eighth time this season the pitching staff didn't walk a batter.
Adam Oviedo, Johnny Rizer, Hunter Wolfe and Jake Eissler were named to the All-Tournament team.
Zach Humphreys collected his 10thmulti-hit game of the season and the 25thof his career.
Johnny Rizer has reached base safely in nine straight.

TCU's season comes to a conclusion. The Horned Frogs finish the season with a 34-28 mark.
