Was he an outfielder in college? I can’t say I know much or paid much attention to his college baseball career. I assume he must be a good fielder and hitter though to be drafted as high as he was.

He hit .290ish last year. Very respectable for a kid who hadn’t played in a couple years but far from indicating he’s a sure bet to hit enough to be a productive major leaguer. As you would expect he’s also a well above average runner and hits for some power. Defensively he’s talented but playing outfield is not his natural position (played infield in HS) so it’s hard to say what type of defender he’ll actually be.

Not to mention no one had him going in the 1st round. A's honestly could have gotten him in the 2nd round

Perhaps shortstop?

That might be true but compare the long term advantages to an MLB career vs a speculative NFL career. I don’t think he would be a starter in the NFL.
You're wrong on which career is the speculative one. He would make more from day 1 in the NFL than MLB. MLB would require him to get the big leagues to equal in compensation of first round QB contract, and his odds of being a big league star aren't great IMO.

Plus, it takes 5 yrs of big league service to be an unrestricted free agent. Teams like to "buy out" a couple years of free agency in exchange for a higher salary during what would normally be the arbitration years. But with Boras as his agent that is nearly an impossibility...see Profar. At minimum he's looking at 2 years in the minors so he's looking at 7 years before hitting free agency, and there's no telling what his production will look like. If he goes to the NFL he's getting a 5 yr, 125-150M guaranteed contract after 3 years. If he wants to play football then it's a no-brainer what road he should take. If it doesn't work out he can give baseball a shot and he'd still be in his mid 20s.

People look at a 15-20 year career as a top level MLB player and say it's more lucrative than the NFL and that's certainly true. But there's no guarantee that Murray will ever be in the big leagues for an extended period of time, much less be a top tier player.

In the NFL, if he's a top 15 pick (which some people believe he will be) then he gets a lot of money right off the bat no matter how good he ends up being. That would certainly be better than getting stuck as a minor leaguer who never can stick in the majors.

Plus you can always go back to baseball later. It's much more difficult to come back to football 5 or 6 years down the road.

Odds are equally against him being a starting QB in the nfl. Maybe more so.

You’re high if you think KM is getting Tom Brady money after 3 years

Murray is gone. Whether to minor league baseball or the NFL, TCU will never have to deal with him again.
Yeah, but everyone is talking about his success in Football or Baseball is down right annoying. The kid is 5' 9"... maybe. He is way too small to be a QB in the NFL. He had trouble throwing over the Bama DL tonight, could you image him trying to throw over an NFL DL?

Plus he already signed with A's, he has made up his mind. And he made the right choice. It is done.

Mayfield got around $30 million over 4 years as the #1 pick
It doesn't matter if he never becomes an NFL starter, he'll make a boat load of money just by being a top 15 or 20 pick.
he is not a first round pick IMO. Better QBs out there (pro style) and many OL and DL that will go before Murray in the draft. He doesn’t fit many NFL schemes. Not sure why everyone is so hot to trot on him.
