Thanks for all the advice everyone. I have a confession to make. I lied. My "buddy" was actually me. I failed to plan anything for our anniversary this weekend, so I was desperate for some last second ideas for a quick getaway and didn't want to admit to it.

I looked into staying at a B&B in Granbury at the Inn on Lake Granbury, Iron Horse Inn, Baker St Harbour and everything was booked.

I looked at a few places in Glenn Rose including Inn on the River, Country Woods Inn, and Cedars on the Brazos, but they were all booked too.

I looked at staying at Rough Creek Lodge, but it was going to end up costing us $800 after tax for one night. No thanks.

I looked into Gaylord Texan and just wasn't sold on the idea.

I looked into staying at a cool place in Dallas and going to a fancy steakhouse there, but couldn't convince myself to spend money in Dallas.

I looked into Kiepersol in Tyler, which looked pretty cool, but ultimately decided it was too far away considering the TCU game probably won't be over until close to 6ish.

All that to say, I finally looked into The Grand Hotel in McKinney and they thankfully had a few rooms left, so that's what we're going to be doing. Heading there straight after the game, and have dinner reservations at Rick's Chophouse for later that evening. Hopefully there's still plenty of places open to explore in downtown McKinney on Sunday. This is just our two year anniversary, so I didn't want to set expectations too high in our first few years. I'll save the more elaborate adventures for later/when I can afford it.

Rick’s is great, you’re gonna like it I think. The hotel bar is connected to Ricks and is very cool as well.

Disappointed in you Maniac. Why wouldn’t you ask Steel directly instead of asking the ignorant fools on here.

Steel was at Rough Creek Lodge last weekend. It is a miserable overpriced mud pit

Best getaway location 2 hours from the Fort is Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge. The gateway town where there’s good B&Bs etc is Medicine Park, OK. At the east entrance of the Refuge

That's over 3 hours away. Not under 2.

Literally never heard of Clifton. Might have to go check it out one day.

I went to Clifton once about 20yrs ago. We played them in basketball my senior year and they had a dude go off for 50pts on us. He was pulling up from near half court on every other shot. Never saw anything like it and we ended up losing a close one. Always wondered if that was a fluke or if he ended up on a D1 scholarship somewhere.

Clifton has a new Ranglers that has Diet Mountain Dew on the fountain. That’s enough to make it a destination town in my opinion.

Late to the thread but I’ve been to or stayed in virtually all the places suggested including Turner Falls and Choctaw nation (Artesian), Jefferson, McKinney, Rough Creek (many times), Granbury (live here now and just hosted a small corporate meeting at the Inn). Everything was a great suggestion.

Was Salado mentioned?

And stop lying about “your friend” and man up. That’s such a Viagra/Cialas move and fools nobody.

There are nice residential areas in Salado, and I like the golf course. But it seems the historic “downtown” area is dying a slow death. Tho I think there is new commercial development on the horizon.

Haven't been there in a few years but held several district level meetings at Inn on the Creek. One of the Bush daughters held their rehearsal dinner reception there. Got to know the proprietors (one has since passed away). Loved their basset hounds and my teams had a great time golfing and doing whatever the hell people do when they shop for antiques.
