Only 1 spot left in the College Football Playoff

Of course.

If everyone reported logically there wouldn’t be anything to talk about.

There has to be a devils advocate to promote discussion/argument week in and week out.

You have to get viewers riled up.

Yesterday while pedaling back to Houston, we were treated to the pathetic and asinine "analysis" of the ESPNU Radio twerps. I forget the host's name, but the sidekick was the ever-execrable Tom Luginbill, and the "expert analysis" was that the BIGXII isn't going to get any teams in the Playoff because "nobody in that Conference plays defense." How many years in a row have they heaved that out?

This is annoying on a number of levels, but most critically on the national perception of the Conference. By this, I mean "Well, is ESPN says it, it must be true!" Especially so, if they are saying it from literally Week One and repeating it over and over throughout the season. They are simply doing battlespace prep for their eventual Playoff Selection of only SEC, B1G and ACC teams. The rest can go pound sand.

The genius behind Heather is her basic understanding that this is not a reporting job. In order to survive and thrive at ESPN you gotta figure out what management wants and turn that into talking points.

Exactly this. Heather figured out what narrative her employers want out there and shills it out constantly.

If Clemson loses once, the drek of their ACC schedule shouldn’t make them an automatic. But Espn gonna Espn.

They won’t be automatic if they lose a game. They’ll be in a very very good position, just like every other 1-loss team will, but not automatic. Will just depend on what happens with the rest of the country.

Big 10, ACC and SEC seem to already have a spot in the playoffs, according to Heather Dinich.

“A season's worth of scenarios will still unfold, and chaos is bound to ensue along the way, but it's hard to imagine those three conference champions will be left out. That leaves the Pac-12, Big 12 and Notre Dame on the bubble, considering the Week 1 results.“

The stupidity of the media is no longer surprising. Who in their right mind can actually say there is only one spot left in the playoff after week 1? Dumb.

Pretty sure Bama has made the playoffs every year and Clemson has made all but one no? That, combined with their since elevated recruiting and weak schedules, seems like as good a time to pick up a pencil as any.

That still leaves 2 spots though.

It’s automatic until espn is forced to pick somebody else.

There are weird stereotypes for all conferences that aren't really applicable anymore, but for some reason still get parroted around. SEC is a defense-only league that doesn't have any good QB's...yet three of the best QB's in college football this year are in the SEC. Big 12 doesn't play defense, yet TCU, Iowa State, and Texas all had top defenses last year. Big Ten is just a running league, yet they had the #4 and #5 passing offenses in NCAA last year. It's just easier to go off of outdated stereotypes than nuance.

I'm rooting for Aggy to win, but also for Clemson to dismantle them. Kind of a weird transcendent thing.
TAMU win will be a "win-win." Clemson will be damaged, and the 2018 edition of the Aggie roller coaster will set up for fresh levels of hilarity.
Meteor for the "win-win-win."

Are you suggesting that ESPN disregards facts??

I submit that this reliance on stereotype is simple laziness. They won't even bother to do basic study of the subject matter, but toss out dopey cliches in lieu of actual facts. I suppose the cliches sound better to them. Generate more clicks. Whatever...
