Former Lamar defensive coordinator and current Texas defensive quality control assistant Trey Haverty has joined the SMU staff. Haverty played wide receiver at Texas Tech from 2000-04, where he was coached by new SMU head coach Sonny Dykes.

Played at Tech 2000-2004. Sonny Dykes was on staff then. He’s bounced around a lot but was a GA at TCU around 07-09, left for a year and then came back as our safeties (?) coach for a couple years. Left for Tech when Kliff got the old band back together, burned bridges on his way out of TCU, then Kliff kicked him to the curb after 2015. He went on to be DC at Lamar for a year and then Herman hired him for some slouch job at UT this year - defensive quality control or something.
