    FWIW, I grew up (like I assume you did) in a time when it was perfectly ok to drive down the road with a beer(and between you and me I still do it some), and when police would let you go home if they caught you driving over the limit. For better or worse, those days are gone.

    Bottom line, if the deal is already done, very likely no judge is going to change that term, so best to grin and bear it. Maybe see it as an opportunity to have a more healthy relationship with the alcohol, and with his family and friends. Hope that helps.

    Actually he is not that much of a drinker and has been really good (better that I) about taking Ubers. The holidays will be interesting with his very English family.
