"Stars" don't matter a damn if the kid turns out to be a dud. We have had a lot of highly rated duds in recent years, and I very much hope that the New Staff evaluates talent a helluva lot better than Patterson and the gang their last few years.
If they can do it at SMU, they should be able to do it here too... we don't need any more non-productive star candy.

You never really know about kids. The injuries, immaturities, grades and under achievers make two stars out of three and four stars when they arrived at schools. That is one reason why this staff likes the portal folks. These guys have at least weathered their first year without the above. It is also why Dykes will likely not fill up a class with just all new freshmen.

what about old freshmen?

do agree that there are a number of variables aside from physical talent that impact the potential success of a recruit

heck, for a number of these kids they have easily been the best at their position even in a fairly large high school program so just the daily challenge of competing and practicing against comparable if not better talent poses a new learning situation

Along those lines, I was looking at the 2020 class... https://247sports.com/college/tcu/Season/2020-Football/Commits/

Kendre Miller was one of the lower rated recruits in TCU's class at 0.8344...boy did they get that one wrong.

crypto talked about miller when he committed, small town of ~ 500, 2a high school that plays in a competitive league but not a long history of success

most recruiting is dependent upon the camps and combines early in kids career so when a guy like miller who has a great off season between his junior and senior seasons, doesn't make the recruiting circuit, and blows up they get overlooked despite almost rushing for 3,000 yards and over 30 td's while sitting a number of snaps

thing is, he looked a great deal like darwin barlow when i saw newton play a few times so now we go back to those things that dr. care mentioned above.

darwin is a solid college back, but not overly quick or explosive and miller just seems to have gotten better each year.

if someone can come up with a way to continually nail that they would also have enough money to match the matador club

Was originally committed to Florida State!
Played at Duncanville as a freshman!
Played at Red Oak (Texas) as a sophomore, before moving to Tennessee!
Was also invited to the Elite 11 Finals this summer!

Who does this guy remind you of? (Just fantasizing of course!)

first, we fanatsize about different things apparently, second, based upon the travel history and throwing motion, everyone's favorite missouri safety?

Saturday at 3:30 - Max Carroll 6-3 205 Ath (TE & SS in H.S.) is going to commit.
Max is a big fast kid that looks great on offense or defense. He was on TCU’s campus about 10 days ago.
I believe it will be carried live by 247/You Tube.
He has two predictions in for TCU. One from Vandy247 editor today and the other from JC.

If Carroll does commit as expected, that will move us up four spots to 21st (207.33 points), and closing in on Tech and Baylor ahead of us at 17th and 16th respectively. Since they both have five more commits than we will, it'll be hard to pass them unless we're still looking at landing a couple of moderately rated four stars and a couple of moderately rated three's!

Just get the best players we can ... and win.
