good thing they don't require black jackets or they would be completely out of luck

so to work in a concession stand i have to have a government issued id, but to vote.......

what is really sad is what is required to simply volunteer to help in certain areas of the church we attend
I agree. My church requires a class, a yearly application process and background check with multiple references as part of the safe sanctuary vetting process for adult volunteers. And the parental approval paperwork for a weekend retreat for my boy’s confirmation class earlier this month was pretty ridiculous.

And don’t get me started on the Boy Scout process. Not sure the FBI is as thorough these days.

I’d love to understand the underlying problem that prompts the need for volunteers in a role that is typically cheap student labor.

Have we accepted too many students from high net worth families to the point that students don’t want/need to fill this role?

I could certainly see myself volunteering at TCU one day. Walking around a beautiful campus spearing trash - sure. Could even bring the grandkids to teach about cleaning the environment.

Being at a sporting event and unable to watch while taking a typically student-paid activity in a crowded area - never.

Sounds a little fishy to me (I’m a cynic by nature), so I did a little internet sleuthing. This organization asking for help running their concession booths, “CL Equals Caring and Loving,” is indeed a registered 501c3 tax exempt organization per the IRS. It was registered in 2019 to a Cassandra McAllister of Lithonia, GA. They run the same request through “VolunteerMatch” asking for volunteers to run their concession stands at myraid college and professional sports arenas. I can find no website, social media presence or mission statement for the charity. I did find a few news articles, including the one below, about a fraudster by the name of Cassandra McAllister in Georgia. No idea whether it is the same person, but not much else comes up when you search for the name.

Presumably, they are asking for volunteers to work the booths for free with the charity proceeds going to this nebulous entity in Georgia. Not telling anyone what to do, but trying to help anyone interested in making an informed decision.
