Jerry Kill to take over New Mexico State football program​

LAS CRUCES - Jerry Kill will be introduced as early as Monday afternoon as the next New Mexico State head football coach.

Multiple sources confirmed to the Sun-News that Kill, 60, will replace Doug Martin, whose contract will not be renewed after nine seasons. Kill is expected to be introduced via press conference on Monday.

The Aggies beat Massachusetts 44-27 on Saturday to finish Martin's ninth season with a 2-10 record and a 25-74 record overall as the Aggies head coach.

Wish him much success. He accepted a difficult task at TCU after Patterson's departure and handled it about as well as you could ask for, given the circumstances, IMO.

Going to NMSU is HCing career suicide. It's 10x the mess that Minnesota was before Kill got there.

I guess Kills plan is to go there and coach for 4-5 years, get fired and then retire.

There’s no way he’ll ever get fired there. The last coach went 28-74 over nine years before getting released.

They've had 5 winning seasons in 50 years. Best of those was a 7-5 season in 2002. They have a winning record against only 4 FBS schools all time (including Iowa State!). Might be the most stress free HC job in the country. Kill can't lose.

They once lost to El Paso High School.

Getting fired as a college coach is the dream. Get one big contract, get fired, take the money.
