ARE We "Purple Baylor"?

Texas Tech student section was chanting, among other things Saturday night, "Pur-Ple Bay-Lor!."

Got Steel to thinking, ARE we Purple Baylor? How would one defend such a charge?

Both putatively religious institutions, or affiliated (in our name for Chrissakes); both private; both pretty small; both over priced.

Academically, pretty similar:

Taunts and comparisons to Baylor to me always suggested a comparison of where Baylor stood between 1996 and 2010. In other words, "you're an irrelevant bottom feeder just like them". Kinda makes less sense since then, especially coming from a team that hasn't done anything Baylor did (no conference titles, no major bowl games, no Top 10 finishes). Tech should probably check the mirror.

Right, but let's say someone who knows nothing about either school except the metrics and the obvious similarities noted above, how would you explain to them the difference between the two?

Steel has been surprised recently with several people he knows sending their DAUGHTERS for Chrissakes, to Baylor. Steel wouldn't send any of his kinder to either school cause they're too expensive especially for what they offer academically, but it is beyond Steel with the scandals that Baylor has had, that anyone would send especially their daughter there. What is the possible appeal? Waco sucks, the campus isn't near as good as TCU, sports better at TCU; academic offerings simular...

My wife went to BU. I spent many weekends shacking up in that crap hole. Had absolutely nothing to do there except.. well you know.... things college girls and boys do  . She honestly spent as much time off of South Hulen and in the Pub, as she did in Waco. The wife hates BU now. I have firmly converted her to the purple side. Both kids are looking at TCU. Neither of them are even remotely considering BU.

we are not a religious institution. Chapel is purely voluntary and attendance there is sparse. Disciples of Christ contributes about 100 grand a year, which prolly doesn't pay the light bill for two days, maybe a week. Chancellor used to be a DoC clergyperson, but no more. Given all that, yes, we are a private school like Baylor, but much smaller. Baylor has over 15.,000 enrollment.

There are no university-sponsored regular chapel services at TCU.

Bite your tongue. Never ever compare us to that school.
