Tech Game Day — Lessons to Learn?

@Spike and Steel travelled to Lubbutt (thanks for going on short notice Spike!) and were among surprisingly few tcu fans in attendance.

Big picture the game day experience there from a fan perspective is far superior to that at tcu. It’s not debatable. Steel could go into granular detail but that may not be necessary.

Here’s the deal. Most of the reasons it’s a far better experience emanate from the fact that Tech has an abundance of fans far greater than tcu and they are really IN to the team and the game. You can talk about all the reasons why that is but bottom line is they do have lots of fans who are in their seats before kickoff and who are well-trained, for lack of a better term, to participate in crowd-participation chants, songs etc.

The piped in music at the tcu game that we all despise is probably perceived by the powers that be as a solution to the fact that we have not too many fans and the ones we have won’t meaningfully participate in the game day presentation. It is what it is as they say in the parlance of our times.

Last side note: due to trauma, Steel hadn’t attended in Lubbock since to 70-point debacle years ago. Sat near the student section this time which could have been bad but was not at all. A bit surprising. Perhaps our offense taking the game by the throat early and the Tomlinson pick-6 had something to do with it.

That is all.

you realize you don't get paid by the minute/ word hear so you could have simply said they have more fans who actually are in their seats instead of four paragraphs

did enjoy the unintentional pun of an event in lubbock and something needed to be explained on the "granular" level and before you try to take record we all know that is far, far, far too subtle for a man who proudly talks about bowel movements

70-35 Trauma.

I guess I now have an excuse to not go to ANY TCU games......My trauma was having to sit through the 0-11 1976 "Say bye bye to Jim Shoffner" season.

Blah blah blah. They have more students. They don't play music during the game?

Unfortunately when you say "That is all," it never is.

I’m confused by steel. He says that the Tech crowd was far superior to ours but then he says that sitting near their student section wasn’t bad at all. Ban steel. That is all.

Not bad in terms of violence, fights, getting beer thrown on, or various other potentialities. They did throw the tortillas, chanted appropriately (including the F TCU, always fun). Police presence was strong and Frogs were curb stomping which may have helped.

Most TCU fans have learned to stay away from Lubbutt.

I think the players were happy to see us. Zach Evans pointed at us. Heard the F TCU chants and someone was brave enough to say F the Frogs behind my back as I was walking away. The older Tech fans were super nice. It was a better game day atmosphere. I'm not suprised that despite all of the commentary about our gameday atmosphere Steel get mostly negative feedback for saying such. I gt the same thing after saying the same thing about Baylor 3 years ago.

What's your beef w/ @steelfrog? You too should sit down over beers, and if that fails, get on the mat and resolve it.
