Bad Omen: B12 just cancelled our virtual media day

Not sure what this portends, but I’d be ready for an announcement that will piss you off.

The Big 12 Conference is cancelling its Virtual Football Media Day presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors. It is yet to be determined if the event will be rescheduled. The Conference’s annual media preview was slated for Monday, August 3, after being moved from its originally scheduled July 20-21 dates.

“There continues to be a lot more questions than answers about what the football season will look like,” said Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “A media day is intended to talk football and the prospects for the season. Part of that discussion is who you will be playing and when. With the on-going consideration of scheduling models by our Board of Directors, this is the best course of action at this time. “

A media briefing with Commissioner Bowlsby will be scheduled in the near-term to update on the State of the Conference.

SEC gave the Big 12 a heads up, which led to the cancelation.

Big 12 has to decide how to deal with the other 4 P5 leagues playing 10-game conference-only schedules.

Too many Covid questions unanswered to put the commissioner, coaches, and players in front of media all day on Monday. It would turn into a Covid-Q&A and not a football one.

It will not be pretty in any situation folks — at minimum let us just hope for an in-conference season without fans. If we have 25%/50% — all the better.

TPTB have been taken a watchful eye on the MLB and, as we know, that has not favored well as a case study.

Totally agree ... the cancellation/delay really signifies nothing specifically for now.

Just end it already. No matter your opinion on Covid, at this point football is a square peg in a round hole. Forcing a season in some highly modified version is hard to get excited about. Not that I wouldn’t watch.

It's been hard to keep up with all the conferences. What about MWC? If has and MWC and AAC has not, SMU might end up being the only game available if B12 goes to 1-up....

Old enough to remember SWC with 8 teams, 10-game regular season schedules, only one bye week (if any)....Season didn't begin until late September...combined with no TV, SWC games the first couple of weeks were at night and late September was cooler than the first part of the month....Corona just might resurrect some of these conditions for the next foreseeable decade(s)....

I remember that too. September games at night, October and November day games. Weather was almost always perfect.

Traded all that for 11am games. And a pile of cash.
