GoFrogs: TCU Stays Perfect, Tops ACU Tuesday
FORT WORTH – TCU remained perfect on the season with a 14-4 victory over Abilene Christian Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. Five Horned Frogs had multiple RBIs in the game, led by three each from Porter Brown, Austin Henry and Gene Wood. On the mound, Riley Cornelio picked up his first career victory.
The Rundown
TCU scored early and often, picking up runs in six of eight offensive innings. The Frogs struck for a pair of runs in the first, highlighted by an RBI-double from Tommy Sacco and a run-scoring single from Gene Wood.
Austin Henry's bases-loaded triple pushed the lead to 5-0 in the second. He would come around to score on Wood's second hit of the game for a 6-0 lead after two.
In the third, Porter Brown launched his first career home run, a three-run shot, for a 9-0 advantage. Gray Rodgers hit his second home run of the season in the fourth as the lead grew to double-digits, 11-0.
The teams traded runs in the fifth. Abilene Christian took advantage of a lead-off hit batter to score its first run of the game. Wood answered the run with a solo shot to right in the bottom of the inning to make it 12-1.
Abilene Christian put up a three spot in the sixth, but that was as close as it would get. Hunter Wolfe got two of the runs back with one swing of the bat as he collected his first home run of the season in the seventh to account for the final score, 14-4.
On the mound, TCU used seven pitchers. Riley Cornelio (1-0) retired all nine batters he faced. Austin Krob and Harrison Beethe each pitched scoreless frame. Marcelo Perez fanned four in two innings of work. Drew Hill and Matt Rudis combined to pitch a scoreless eighth.
