True, but it was still an attempt to run away from his problems. Who knows, if he had gotten caught that time and gotten the help he obviously needs, we might be talking about his redemption in the same way we talk about Pachall's.

So this arrest is related to the fact that he was selling the same piece of “memorabilia” to multiple people?
I still believe that was a sincere expression of compassion for a child. Very few humans are 100% irredeemable or incapable of good acts.

I think he may have known when to turn on the charm machine because at other times he seemed to be incapable of making the correct decisions. In the end only he knows...
