Is this the last year for JJ’s exemption?

Was wondering about that when I saw him in the field. I don't know. The following page was updated in July and says the new list of members with status categories will be published next week.

BTW, Hoge was the only Frog to make the cut and is having a good tournament With round 3 not quite completed, Hoge sits T8 after rounds of 68-65-67. He's four back of the leaders.

Tom Hoge shoots a final-round 65 and finishes solo second at The Greenbrier. He pulls down a cool $817,500. Also (since it's the first week of the new PGA Tour season), he is technically second on the FedEx Cup points list. Congrats, Tom!

Also a big shot in the arm for my fantasy golf team (yeah, I know), which includes Hoge and winner Joaquin Niemann.

Congrats to Paul Barjon, who holds on to the top spot on the Mackenzie Tour Order of Merit following the season-ending tournament, which also earns him Player of the Year honors. Taylor Pendrith finished T11 to Paul's T27, but Barjon holds on to win the season race by roughly $2,700.

TCU men are on the course in Connecticut at the Hartford Hawks Invitational, played at Bull's Bridge Golf Club, a 2004 Fazio design. Not sure how TCU came to be involved in this tournament--TCU is the only top-50 team in the field, and most of the 17 schools are outside of the top 200 in the Golfstat rankings. Organizers are allowing all nine TCU players to compete (five for the team score, four as individuals), so perhaps the opportunity to give a young squad playing time factored into TCU making the trip to the Northeast.

UCF (the only other top-100 team in the field, ranked 76th at the end of last season) won this tournament the past two years; last year the Knights beat UConn by 9 and Seton Hall by 14. This is a prove-it tournament to see if the Frogs can dominate inferior competition. It's scheduled for 36 holes today and 18 tomorrow.

TCU freshman and Fort Worth native Chris Berzina earns his first collegiate start this week. He joins fellow freshman Fernandez de Oliveira and Frimodt in the lineup, along with junior Allkins and sophomore Gums. Competing as individuals are Aguilera, Brown, Laussot and Christopherson, the last of which is also making his collegiate debut.

I would expect to see at least four Frogs in the top 20 at this tournament and at least one competing to win it. No live scoring is available; keep an eye on GoFrogs and Twitter for results.

TCU men not quite tearing it up in Connecticut; they were in 6th place after the a.m. round (+3) and moved up to 3rd in the afternoon round (-9); Frogs are six back of UCF and two back of Rider, which is looking to move up from last year's season-end ranking of 271 out of 298 D1 programs. Rider has to feel good about clipping TCU by a shot in both rounds. The good thing about moving into third place is that the Frogs will be pairedh the teams above them.

Individually, Justin Gums shot a personal best 67 in round two and is T5 overall at -4, three back of the leader. Frogs have four other players at even par or better (Allkins, Brown, Frimodt and Fernandez de Oliveira).

Frogs will tee it up again tomorrow for the final round.

Frogs finish 2nd in Connecticut and were pretty well schooled by UCF, which posted the low round of the tournament and won by 16 shots (-24 to TCU's -8). Seton Hall and Rider were the only other schools to finish under par.

Individually, TCU almost placed five in the top 20, with Frogs finishing T9, T12, T14, T14, and 21. Not bad, but UCF had four players in the top 10.

Justin Gums led the Frogs at -4; Thomas Allkins was -3; Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira and Trevor Brown finished -2.

While it would have been nice to get an individual or team trophy, the tournament buffers the Frogs' record against D1 competition (now 18-5), which may come in handy at NCAA tournament time, given the rule that teams must finish above .500.

TCU women kick off their season today at Red Sky Ranch in Colorado for the Golfweek Conference Challenge--which I think means one school per conference. Based on the prior season-end rankings, TCU projects as a top-five team in the 18-team field: UCLA (17), Campbell (23), Ole Miss (29),and Pepperdine (36) join the Frogs (28) in that group.

Interesting to see senior and all-Big-12 player Greta Bruner not in the lineup. That's a testament to the Frogs' emerging strength. Greta's play fell off a bit in the second half of last year, but she is still a current top-100 collegiate player.

On their third time around the Fazio course in Colorado, the TCU women put together a good score. They went 292-296-282 to finish T5, 21 shots back of winner Ole Miss. Frogs were hampered by having to count an 80 on Day 2.

Individually, Sabrina Iqbal was her usual stellar self, shooting three under-par rounds and finishing T4. Freshmen Trinity King and Jennie Park both showed no signs of being intimidated by college golf, posting T12 and T14 finishes. Park's final-day 68 was TCU's low round of the week.

TCU women finish T12 in Oklahoma in the 15-team field. Just like last week, the Frogs had a strong final day, shooting even par and showing their potential. Unfortunately, they began the day in last after going +28 over the first two days. Frogs were led by freshmen Park and King, both of whom finished T28. It's the veterans that need to step it up.

Meanwhile, TCU men are on the course in Oregon at the Nike Invitational. Follow progress here: http://results.golfstat.com//public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=20112

TCU men finish 12th out of 15 teams at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invite in Oregon. Sounds depressing, but it was an elite field with 6 of the top 10 teams and 12 of the top 25 in the preseason coaches poll. Frogs projected as the 13th-best team in the field, so the result was about what was expected.

As at Pebble Beach, Oklahoma won the tournament, although here the Sooners took their foot off the gas a bit on the last day to almost make things interesting (won by 5 over Wake). Frogs were 40 shots back of OU, or 3.3 shots per counting score per day. Our guys can do better than that.

TCU's best individual finisher was freshman Gustav Frimodt (T30). Hoping we'll see one or more Frogs start to make some noise soon.

Shout out to 2015 TCU grad Andrew Presley, who played his last 12 holes in 5 under to qualify on the number in the Korn Ferry Tour's Stage 1 qualifying tournament at The Woodlands CC last month. He'll play in a Stage 2 event in a few weeks (possibly TPC Craig Ranch, 10/28-11/1) with hopes of advancing to the finals in Florida in December.

Another Frog who gave it a shot at the Stage 1 tournament in Garland (Firewheel) was '08 grad Franklin Corpening, who played three good rounds but couldn't recover from a first-round 77.

TCU men are on the course this morning at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley. This is the Big 12 Match Play Championship. The format is round-robin pool play (four matches over 2.5 days), followed by a cross-pool match for final placement out of 10 teams. Each match features six players from each team; each team travels with seven players, allowing lineups to be switched up a bit.

First up for 8th-seeded TCU is top-seeded Texas Tech. The Frogs are playing Fernandez de Oliveira, Allkins, Gums, Berzina, Frimodt, and Laussot this a.m. Trevor Brown is sitting out the first session.

In early going, TCU is up in 2 matches and down in 1, with 3 matches square. Follow progress here: http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=match&tid=20329&rid=1

Besides Tech, TCU's pool also includes Texas, West Virginia and Iowa State.

Last year, TCU had a winning record (I think they went 3-1-1) but somehow finished 5th because of pool-play tie-breakers.

Who made these seeds up? We’re 8 and OSU is 6?

Yeah, good question. The Big 12 press release said that the seeds were based on Big 12 coaches' rankings. If so, it appears that the Big 12 coaches opted to use the current Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, because the teams appear in rank order according to that ranking.

The Sagarin data is based on limited early-season performances, but there's no way that it should show Tech as undefeated against all competition and 3rd nationally; at the Carmel Cup, Tech finished 7th out of 8 teams; the Raiders were T2 in their only other tournament. Head scratcher.

Oklahoma State was 3rd at Carmel and 4th at Nike, but they were 12th in their other tournament in Illinois--that accounts for their lower seeding--and for TCU's, which finished behind the Cowboys in their two head-to-head meetings.

I don't know where you're getting that Tech got 7th and 2nd in their two tournaments so far this year but it's not the case. We were tied 2-2-2 with 3-5 holes to play with Tech and they won the two ties and flipped one that we were leading in. Down 0-3-3 early against UT.

You're right. I mistakenly pulled up Tech's 2018-2019 results. Good for them--and for Jeff Sagarin. That was a tough end to the morning round for the Frogs. Now down 3+ holes in 5 of 6 matches against UT.
