Missouri Valley
How they got here: At-large bid
Coach: Keith Guttin (1,216-756 in 35th season)
Best hitters

  • 3B Jake Burger: .341 average, .459 on-base, .691 slugging, 22 HR, 63 RBI, 12 2B
  • SS Jeremy Eierman: .311 average, .429 on-base, .653 slugging, 19 HR, 61 RBI, 15 2B
  • CF Hunter Steinmetz: .294 average, .408 on-base, .390 slugging, 52 R, 10 2B
Best pitchers

  • RHP Bryan Young: 26 2/3 IP, 41 K, 0.68 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, .099 AVG against
  • LHP Doug Still: 87 2/3 IP, 79 K, 2.57 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, .241 AVG against
  • RHP Jake Fromson: 67 2/3 IP, 81 K, 1.86 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, .148 AVG against
Most Exciting Player: Jake Burger, 3b, Missouri State. Arguably the best pure slugger in the country, Burger has wrecked opposing pitching in 2017. The numbers, including his 22 home runs and .459 on-base percentage speak for themselves and he’s well on his way to a first-round draft choice.

Best Hitter: Burger. Arkansas has a lineup loaded with elite hitters, but none can top the prolific Jake Burger. He’s disciplined, can handle elite velocity and is likely head for stardom as a professional.

X-Factor: Jeremy Eierman, ss, Missouri State. The righty hitting shortstop has erupted for 19 home runs in 2017 and is one of the most exciting underclass talents in America. He needs to keep his strikeouts in check and provide support if teams are pitching around Jake Burger.

Best Bullpen: Missouri State. No team in Fayetteville will have the one-two punch at the end of games like the Bears. Righthanders Jake Fromson (1.86, 67.2 IP) and Bryan Young (0.68, 26.2 IP) are slam the door type weapons out of the bullpen and have swing and miss caliber stuff.

I am very happy to see this pitching shut down the likes of Virginia and DBU offenses. MSU looks to be a more complete team that Virginia and DBU though. Will be a great match up. Crowd has got to get in the game early and stay in it. I like our chances if our starting pitching continues at this pace and think we win in two.

In 2015, they were supposed to host the super regional, but the minor league team they share their stadium with wouldn't move aside, so they had to go play in Fayetteville and lost..

This shows how base and scrappy some of these programs are..

Yeah they share with SPFD Cardinals who play against Frisco in TX league double A. Makes for a nice facility to share but missing a chance to host certainly sucks. Worth it overall I'm sure as the stadium is downtown basically on campus.

The really bad part is MSU built and owns the stadium (or MSU alum built it) and then agreed to lease it to the minor league team a year after it opened.
