What the hell was AFCA thinking?

Seems that the American Football Coaches Association decided to have Warden Art speak at their upcoming convention. Of course, there was a pretty strong backlash and rightfully so. But, what the hell were they thinking?

As one wag put it, "What's next? A symposium led by Jerry Sandusky on 'The Pros and Cons of Youth Football Camps'?"

The fired Baylor coach's scheduled speaking engagement was canceled "due to concerns," the American Football Coaches Association said.
Former Baylor coach Art Briles' scheduled appearance at this year's American Football Coaches Association convention in Charlotte, N.C., has been canceled.

Briles' scheduled Tuesday afternoon session, titled "Standing Strong/Game Management," purportedly was to address how not to deal with accusations against football players.

AFCA executive Todd Berry mentions in the article that the coaches lost out on an opportunity for Briles to speak. Is this guy brain dead?

Wait, by Briles coming in and speaking on what not to do, isn’t that sort of admitting what he did was wrong? LOL

This is instructive as it shows that eventually Art will get another coaching gig. It’s just too early but someone at some point will figure they have nothing to lose and hire him. He already has a constituency ready to move on.

Actually, he has, in effect, already been hired. UH/Applewhite hired Art's son to coach and many people believe that when UH hired Art's son, they automatically get Art too since his son will be consulting with Art on a regular basis.

Some more of that: "He was ready to basically talk openly about what happened, and he wanted to do it with his coaching buddies. He wanted to do it with guys who are his brethren, so to speak, his profession and say, ‘Here's what you need to look out for. Here's where I had a problem.'"

His "buddies"?!? "Here's where I had a problem."?!!? Ye Gods!
