Tulsa World: Is defense still OU's playoff committee kryptonite?

Oklahoma’s main concern is TCU. The Horned Frogs come to Norman on Saturday as the No. 6 team in the College Football Playoff ranking, with a coach who has beaten OU and a defense with the potential to slow the roll of Heisman Trophy frontrunner Baker Mayfield.
If the Sooners win that one, they can start thinking about jumping from their No. 5 ranking into the coveted top four. They can start thinking about convincing the CFP committee that they belong in the playoff.
They can start thinking about overcoming another concern, secondary for now but absolutely relevant. A concern that has lingered since the final 2016 CFP rankings appeared and then-committee chair Jeff Long pinned the Sooners’ shortcoming not on their two losses but on their deficiency on defense.
