Someone didn't realize the plane was a diesel.

I'm guessing in terms of forward and rear tanks? No idea though.
A substantial portion of the fuel capacity for commercial aircraft would be the tanks that are in the wings. There is an on-board system that allows for the fuel to be balanced but that probably would take a while if all or most of the fuel only went into the tanks on one wing. I would have to guess that there was perhaps some error on board the plane that did not allow the fuel to flow evenly into the wing tanks when the plane was being fueled.
