Golfstat individual rankings are out based on head-to-head competition. Stefano Mazzoli is currently rated as the 57th-best player in D1; Turner Maclean the 74th. Among women, Emmy Martin is 81st and Annika Clark 104th.

http://www.golfstat.com/2017-2018/women/wncplhth.htm
http://www.golfstat.com/2017-2018/men/mncplhth.htm

Individually, among the men, Mazzoli rises to 42nd and Maclean to 61st.
Among the women, Martin jumps to 44th and Clark to 54th.

Eyes up. Keep climbing.

Hope the ladies are enjoying their time off the course in Cabo, because it's been a bit ragged on the course. Frogs have shot 296-299 (+27) and sit 12th in the 14-team field at the Battle of the Beach. Good news is that one of the teams behind the Frogs is Ohio State. Always good to see the Frogs ahead of the Buckeyes.

Individually, Greta Bruner, making just her second start, leads the Frogs at +4 (T30). Annika Clark and Emmy Martin are also in the top half of the 84-player field.

Grace Do was -2 through 14 holes yesterday, just one shot off the individual lead, before finishing +3. Hopefully a good learning experience for the freshman, and she'll get used to being on the leaderboard.

Frog women shot their best score of the Cabo tournament on Sunday and moved up a spot, finishing T11 as a team.

With both the men's and women's teams having finished their fall slate, it's a good time to check rankings.

As a team, the men are ranked 36th by Golfstat; the women 61st.

Individually, however, the women shine. Emmy Martin ranks 27th nationally and 3rd in the Big 12 in scoring relative to par, at -0.78. Annika Clark is T40 nationally and 5th in the Big 12 at -0.22.

For perspective, no Frog woman has ever posted a sub-par scoring average for a whole year. In fact, only one player has ever posted an average less than +1.0 (Emmy Martin, who averaged +0.94 last season). Spring golf conditions are often worse than fall, and lots of rounds left to play, but these two Frogs could make significant changes to the TCU record book.

Among the men, Stefano Mazzoli ranks T49 nationally and 9th in the Big 12 in scoring relative to par at -1.25. Turner Maclean is T77 nationally and 13th in the Big 12 at -0.92. Only four TCU men have ever posted a sub-par average over a full season. Julien Brun posted three seasons of -1.0 or better, including the TCU record of -1.15.

Edit: In terms of global amateur ranking, Martin sits 254th and Clark 272nd among the women; Mazzoli is 318th and Pierre Mazier 329th among the men.

Paul Barjon shot a 2-under 70 yesterday at TPC Craig Ranch in the first of four rounds of Stage 2 qualifying for the Web.com tour. That puts him T28. Top 20 and ties advance to the final stage of qualifying in December.

Lots of golf to go. Follow progress here: https://pgatq.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/pgatq17/event/pgatq1730/contest/1/leaderboard.htm

Update: Paul shoots +2 74 in round 2, putting him at T27, two strokes out of the top 20. Well within striking distance.

On a TCU related golf note... for anyone that doesn't follow JJ Henry on social media, Jordan Spieth and family (and Ryan Palmer) were apparently hanging out at his tailgate before the game this past weekend.

Paul Barjon had a solid round today (71, -1), but scoring conditions were good and he lost some ground to the field. He sits T31 with one round to go, four shots back of the Top 20. He'll need a great round tomorrow to advance to the Q School finals.

Edit: Barjon shoots a final-round 75; finishes seven shots back of the qualifiers.

The men's and women's golf teams both inked new commits last week.

The men kept their European pipeline going by adding Alejandro Aguilera from Madrid, ranked 186 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Should be an immediate contributor and a building block for a big class next year, as the current men's roster includes 8 juniors and a sophomore.

The women added two signees to replace the irreplaceable Emmy Martin and Tiffany Breitenwischer. The new Frogs are Sabrina Iqbal of California and Valeria Pacheco of Puerto Rico by way of Florida. Iqbal won the 2016 California Women's Amateur and is two-time NorCal Player of the Year; Pacheco was the 2016 South Florida Player of the Year.

Welcome to these new Frogs!

Tom Hoge's great weekend at the Sony Open rightfully got its own thread. Quick mention here to say congrats on the T3 finish and post Tom's Twitter post.

Tom is now 24th on the 2017-2018 money list. After the battle to keep his card last year, great to see him off to such a great start.

Upon completion of its renovation, Ditto Golf Course in Arlington is being renamed Texas Rangers Golf Club, though it will still be a municipal course.

The deal garnered a segment on Golf Channel this a.m.

You can get a look at the renovation work here:

I played Ditto quite a bit in the 1990s. Thought it a good value then--more interesting layout than many munis and some risk/reward holes. Always enjoyed spotting a roadrunner that lived in the brush on the back nine.

TCU men kick off the spring tournament season this a.m. in Hawaii at the Amer Ari Invitational.

With the time delay, players won't be on the course for a few hours, but when they start, you can track progress through Golfstat at: http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=teamPlayer&tid=14673 .

Tournament is held at Waikoloa (Kings Course) on the big island. It's a Weiskopf-Morrish design.

The 18-team field includes 7 of the top 20-ranked teams, including #2 Oklahoma State and #3 Georgia Tech.

TCU men currently sit 40th in the Golfstat rankings.

Solid round from the Frog men yesterday, with all 5 players at par or better (plus Triston Fisher, playing as an individual, posting a 6th). Frogs were -6 for the day, -13 for the tournament.

However, a lot of the competition went low, and the Frogs dropped to 7th place as a team, though just a shot out of 5th.

Kudos to Pierre Mazier, who shot a 3-under 69 and is T12 individually, and to David Ravetto, making his third start of the season, who shot a 2-under 70.

Team Scores
-29 Oklahoma State
-20 Georgia Tech
-20 Texas Tech
-18 USC
-14 Texas
-14 Oregon
-13 TCU
-11 Auburn

Frogs finish strong in Hawaii. Stefano Mazzoli shoots the low round of the day (7-under 65), Pierre Mazier shoots his third consecutive sub-par round, David Ravetto breaks par for a second straight day), and Hayden Springer, whose scorecard looked like a sure throwaway at +6 through 12, played the last 6 holes in -5.

In the end, the Frogs finished -22 to tie for 5th; they beat or tied three top-10 teams.

Team Results
-47 Oklahoma State
-30 Texas Tech
-27 USC
-23 Texas
-22 TCU
-22 Georgia Tech
-22 Auburn

Individual Results
-10 (T6) Stefano Mazzoli
- 7 (T21) Pierre Mazier
- 1 (T43) Turner Maclean
+1 (T53) Hayden Springer
+1 (T53) David Ravetto

Good work, Frogs!

Two Frogs make appearances in the first Arnold Palmer Cup rankings of the season. The AP Cup is a team event that pits the top six international college players against the top six U.S. college players. With men's and women's teams, 24 players qualify. The 2018 version is at Evian Resort in France in July.

Stefano Mazzoli is fourth in the men's international ranking, so he has a good chance to qualify if he continues his stellar play through the spring. Emmy Martin is 25th in the women's U.S. ranking.

Story at: http://www.arnoldpalmercup.com/content/first-spring-arnold-palmer-cup-ranking-released-0

Congrats, Frogs!

Women's golf spring season gets under way in Puerto Rico just a few hours (shotgun start at 6 Central). Looks like this might be a 6-to-count-5 tournament, given the pairings: http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=pairings&tid=14854

Four top-25 teams in the 11-team field. Good opportunity for the ladies.

Edit: It's a 6-to-count-4 tournament. Junior Yeji Shin gets her first start of the year (she competed as an individual in one of the fall tourneys), along with Clark, Martin, Do, McDougald and Bruner.
