Pro Football Talk: Seahawks to retain Boykin after arrest, for now

Posted by Michael Gehlken

Each NFL team must decide whether to keep or discard a player following an arrest.

The Seahawks have made their decision on quarterback Trevone Boykin — for now.

Boykin was arrested this week under charges of public intoxication and two counts of marijuana possession. He reportedly was the passenger of a vehicle that injured five people when its driver allegedly backed into a crowd. The driver was arrested, too, for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

kinda shocked. hope he stops screwing up. Has a ton of potential and seems like a good guy but has made a couple awful decisions.

Trevone needs to take heed of the negative consequences and repercussions generated

by such incidents. "There is a place where the sidewalk ends".....and life begins.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement and you never know what may motivate someone to change behaviors but not holding my breath on this one. Seems more like we'll see if we can anything better so for now there's no reason to do much of anything. Draft is coming. "Optional" training camps soon after. Camp follows.

“We’ll see; we’ll see what happens here,” Carroll told John Clayton of ESPN in a radio interview. “Early indications are that we’ll give him an opportunity to be back with us. We’ll see what happens though.”

It is a good thing he is dirt cheap and has a similar skill set to the starter and the seahawks will do what ever it takes to cut cost. I think if he played for just about any other team he would probably be cut.

This means nothing. If they find someone better, they will cut him. If not, he'll stick. It's the NFL.

Normal weekend in Seattle behavior.

Yeah, some of this stuff is fan based as well. Weed is legal in Washington so who cares about that. Guy is out on a Saturday night during the offseason and the driver of a car backs into some people. I doubt anyone is calling for TB's head up there.

Figured this was semi-related and had nowhere else to post it. Jerry Jones making noise in the owner's box

"Jones also raised the question of the NFL’s position on marijuana. Jones, per a source who heard the comments, wants the league to drop its prohibition on marijuana use. Jones was reminded that the issue falls under the umbrella of collective bargaining, which would require the players to make one or more concessions in exchange for significant changes to the marijuana prohibition.

Jones likewise urged an end to the practice of investigating off-field misconduct. The NFL became more proactive regarding these issues after the Ray Rice situation forced the league to no longer defer to the criminal justice system, which often imposes insufficient sanctions for clear acts of misbehavior.

Jones’ concerns regarding marijuana and investigations are understandable; he has seen players like Rolando McClain, Demarcus Lawrence, and Randy Gregory lost in recent years to suspensions under the substance-abuse policy. As to the league’s recent decision to investigate misconduct even after a criminal case is closed, Jones has lingering frustrations flowing from the Ezekiel Elliott situation, which has still not been resolved by the league."

We tend to measure our NFL frogs by the ghost of Sammy Baugh, the legend of Bob Lilly, and the incredible career of LT.

Trevon's past is far different than these three who set the bar on the highest peg.

I hope that someone (a close friend, an advisor, a relative) can get his ear and convince him to stay on an acceptable path in the future.

TB needs to concentrate on his NFL career and make an effort to avoid Johnny Football types in the future.

Clear minded individuals don't carry pot in their pants and climb into a vehicle driven by a drunk at 2:00 a.m.

Maybe a summer working out with Andy Dalton and drinking protein shakes is the answer?
