FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 33 TCU women’s tennis team went to battle with No. 7 Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon, but came up just short of upsetting the Cowgirls as the team fell 4-2 at the indoor facility in the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.

Despite being down 3-1 in the match, the Horned Frogs (10-7, 2-3 Big 12) did not back down as they sent the final three remaining courts against the Cowgirls (15-4, 3-1 Big 12) into third sets. Donika Bashota scored her second win this season over a ranked foe as she came back from dropping the second set to down No. 73 Vladica Babic, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, and give TCU its second point in the match. The Frogs could not hold on, as No. 10 Viktoriya Lushkova finished off the match in Oklahoma State’s favor with a 7-6(1), 3-6, 6-2 win at the top position over No. 81 Seda Arantekin.

Sofiko Kadzhaya provided the other point for TCU in the match as the senior got her first win over a ranked foe this season by taking out No. 42 Aliona Bolsova in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, on court three for her sixth win in dual match play this season.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
“Today was a turning point in our season. The last five weeks we've overcome a lot of adversity. To play a top-10 team with a player down and it still go down to the wire solidifies what the coaches and players have been feeling all week. We are trending up and getting better. The timing is great. We want to make runs in the conference tournament and NCAA championships and in order to do that you've got to have all nine spots, three doubles and six singles, clicking. We are still not nine for nine, but we're a whole lot closer than we were and I'm confident we will be there within the next two weeks. Most importantly, and I can't stress this enough, I feel like our girls played with a lot of integrity and class today. Sportsmanship has somewhat been lost in this day and age of winning being so glorified, but nothing is more important that integrity and I feel like we were strong leaders and great examples in that area today.”
