FORT WORTH, Texas – In a battle that came down to the final court, the No. 24 TCU women’s tennis team could not complete a comeback as No. 23 Ole Miss came away with a 4-3 win in the opening round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Friday afternoon inside the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
After dropping the doubles point to the Rebels (2-0), the Horned Frogs (2-1) stormed back to take the opening set in three of the six singles matches. After going up 3-2 in the match with wins at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 positions, TCU needed a fourth court to secure the match but Ole Miss was able to finish off the final courts in straight sets to take the victory, 4-3.
Aleksa Cveticanin and Marie Norris each picked up victories over ranked opponents on Friday. No. 71 Cveticanin was able to upend No. 62 Sabina Machalova, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot for her first ranked win of her career while Norris downed No. 95 Tea Jandric, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 5 position. Norris is now 8-1 on the season and riding a five-match winning streak.
