DALLAS, Texas - Behind a complete team effort on offense and defense, the TCU volleyball team started its last weekend of preseason action with a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22) victory over Metroplex rival SMU on Friday night inside Moody Coliseum.

The Horned Frogs (7-3) and the Mustangs (6-4) battled point-for-point in every set as TCU proved to have the closing power needed to take the match victory with 64 total kills, four players in double-digits offensively and a season-high 76 total team digs.

Trailing almost the entire first set, the Frogs stormed back and used strong serving by Anna Walsh to steal the set and take the 1-0 lead in the match. SMU did not back down and took control of the second set late to put the match all even at 1-1 heading into the intermission. TCU recaptured the momentum in the final two sets to pull off the victory in four sets.

Ashleigh Martin led the way offensively for the second straight match with a double-double of 18 kills and 11 digs. Three other TCU players earned double-digit kills with Walsh contributing 14 kills while Sarah Swanson and Allye Beth Deaton each chipped in 12 kills. On defense, Dani Dennison picked up 28 digs while Kayla Scheevel and Berklie Baker were good for 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

Quotes of the Match
TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer
Opening Statement
"Tonight we did a good job of executing our game plan for a longer period of time. We could see that especially late in games because we did a good job with that. Serving wise, we missed quite a few serves for us, but I do think we made up for it in some other ways and that was helpful. Overall, it was a great team effort. (Ashleigh) Martin had a ton of swings and she did a whole lot for us tonight. Dani (Dennison) did a great job of holding down the back court. Really great team effort tonight and I am proud of our team."
