FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team opened the 2017 season by picking up the 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-13) sweep of UTSA on Friday night in the first match of the Cowtown Classic at The Rickel inside the University Recreation Center in Fort Worth.

After a slow start in the opening set, the Horned Frogs (1-0) used a kill by junior Anna Walsh to chip away at a four-point lead by the Roadrunners (0-2) late in the set. Five kills, three blocks and a service ace later, TCU secured the comeback with a 25-23 win as the Frogs used the momentum to control the final two sets as the team picked up its first sweep of the season. TCU put down 39 kills in the victory to go along with seven total service aces and 39 digs.

Walsh was a main factor in the comeback as the Grapevine, Texas native finished the match with a team-high 11 kills on 15 swings with only one error for a .667 hitting clip. Walsh also chipped in five blocks as TCU recorded eight total as a team. Kaylee Smith and Lamprini Konstantinidou guided the offense to a .296 hitting percentage with 18 and 14 assists, respectively. Freshman Dani Dennison got the start at libero and anchored the defense with 14 digs.

Quotes of the Match
TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer
Opening Statement
"Just like most teams go through, we had first match jitters. I was hoping that going through that scrimmage we would have fixed that but opening day is just a different day any way you want to look at it. We have a lot of young players out there so that changes things a little bit.

"The biggest thing that I want to say is thank you to the students who came out to the game. In two years here, that has been the biggest student crowd that has been into it with cheers the whole time. It wasn't just having students in the stands, it was having a unified group of students in the stands. I tell my team all the time - Are you a crowd or are you a tribe? A crowd is a group of people where there is no communication and there is nothing that brings them together. A tribe is a group of people who communicates together and they have things that bring them together. This crowd out here was a tribe and it was really really cool. We are hoping that this starts getting a group of people or tribe of people together on a regular basis. Thank you. That was awesome."
