GoFrogs: Track's Ryan Camp Sets School Record Throw

Results

ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- The TCU track and field team competed at the New Mexico Team Invitational on Saturday. The men's weight throw group continued their strong indoor season with Ryan Camp breaking teammate Isaiah Rogers' school record.

SCHOOL RECORD
On his third attempt, Camp threw for 64 feet 3.25 inches (19.59m), breaking Rogers' record from the Reveille Invitational in December (63 feet 3.5 inches). Rogers threw 62 feet 10.75 inches (19.17m) on Saturday. Justin Sanchez repeated his career-best with throw of 62 feet 4 inches. Camp, Rogers, and Sanchez hold the top three marks in school history and finished second, third, and fourth respectively on Saturday.

BACK TO BACK
For the second meet in a row, Jalen Miller won the 60m, cutting his season-best time down to 6.65. Emeilo Ferguson followed in second, finishing in 6.66.

TAKING HOME GOLD
In addition to Miller in the 60m, TCU recorded five more wins throughout the meet. In the men's 600m, Kevin McClanahan recorded a first-place mark of 1:17.92, while Derrick Mokaleng won the 400m with a time of 46.25, an indoor personal-best. McClanahan and Mokaleng teamed up with Darrion Flowers and Jostyn Andrews in the 4X400 relay and picked up the win with a 3:11.56 mark.

All-American Scotty Newton picked up the win the triple jump. He jumped 52 feet 2.5 inches (15.91m), 7.5 inches further than his mark at last weekend's Red Raider Invitational.

Kayla Heard recorded a win in the 400m, finishing in 54.98, her best mark so far this season.

Brittney Trought returned to action in the 60m hurdles, finishing second with a mark of 8.83.

Hope Glenn had a strong run in the 60m, finishing with a third-place mark of 7.44, which ranks fifth in the Big 12.

COACH'S THOUGHTS
"The weight throw guys are doing well and keep getting better," head coach Darryl Anderson said. "Each meet we go to, the competition is going to get better, so they will need to keep improving. Then you have Scotty jumping over 52 feet, an improvement from last week and getting him closer to the NCAA championship. Derrick had a good run for his first quarter(400m) of the year, setting an indoor PR from last year and his second fastest ever. Kevin went in the 600m and looked good. 1:17.92 is an exceptional run. Jalen and Emeilo going one and two in the 60m was great, especially with both finishing with season bests. On the women's side, Hope had a good day running 7.44 in the 60m and finishing third behind a girl who could arguably win the 200m national title. Kayla winning the quarter was an improvement as well. Brittney got back on the track and really started her season. Now we just have to get her ready for the Big 12 championships in a month. I thought we got some things accomplished this weekend and we will continue to get better. We're going to take the next three weeks to prepare ourselves for conferences and take some people to the NCAA championships."

UP NEXT
