GoFrogs: TCU Wraps Up Texas Relays
Final Results
AUSTIN, Texas – The TCU men’s and women’s track and field team wrapped up competition and placed in the finals in all six events at the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, presented by Spectrum, in Austin on Saturday.
“I thought we had pockets of good things happen today,” director of track and field Darryl Anderson said.
Sophomore Brittney Trought kicked off the action in the 100-meter hurdle finals in an overcast, breezy Mike A. Myers Stadium. Trought ran into a slight headwind (w-0.3), but still managed to produce a time of 13.39, taking home fifth place.
In the men’s long jump, junior Scotty Newton was on the outside looking in as he stepped into his final attempt. Newton then leaped into sixth place with a wind-legal mark of 25 feet (7.62 meters).
“[Scotty Newton] struggled in the triple jump yesterday, which is his forte, but he really turned it around today and jumped 25 feet in the long jump, so that’s always a plus. That will be very helpful for us at the conference meet.”
On the throwing end, freshman Isaiah Rogers represented the Horned Frogs well in the men’s shot put. Rogers found himself in sixth place heading into the finals, but the Smyrna, Ga. native saved his best throw for last. On his final attempt, Rogers launched the shot a good 58 feet 7.25 inches (17.86 meters), marking a personal-best and earning a fourth-place overall finish.
“Isaiah Rogers, for one, did a really good job elevating his personal best to 58-7, so that was very pleasing. In the 4x4, I thought the relay teams, both the men and women, competed hard.”
TCU’s 4x400-meter relay quartet of junior Tiffany Terry, sophomore Kayla Heard, sophomore Lexi Aitken and freshman Jaden Davis strung together a fourth-place time of 3:41.14.
In the men’s 4x400-meter relay, junior Kevin McClanahan and freshmen trio Jostyn Andrews, Ryan Champlin and Derrick Mokaleng recorded a time of 3:07.48 and placed seventh in the Texas Relays’ main event.
“Our men’s 4x4 team is made up of three freshmen. Anytime you do that and put them in this arena, it’s going to be tough. But the thing I liked was that everybody we took here stuck their nose in it and competed hard.”
Up next, the Frogs will head to Tucson, Ariz. for the Jim Click Shootout on Saturday, April 8. After that, they will return home to play host to some of the top schools in the country at the Horned Frogs Invitational on April 15.
