FORT WORTH – Minnesota broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the eighth inning and held on for the 6-3 win over TCU on Friday night at Lupton Stadium. Connor Wanhanen led the TCU offense with three hits.

The Rundown
Two errors to start the game had Minnesota in business. Alex Boxwell put the Golden Gophers in front 1-0 with an RBI groundout. The lead for Minnesota grew to two as it once again took advantage of a lead-off batter reaching base in the second inning. A base hit from Ben Mezzenga made it a 2-0 game. Josh Watson held the Gophers to one run as he threw out a runner at home trying to score from second on the Mezzenga hit.

TCU cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning. Rizer doubled and moved to third on a balk. An error that would have ended the frame allowed Rizer to score to make it a 2-1 game.

The Frogs tied the game in the third. Wanhanen opened the inning with a base knock and scored on a Luken Baker base hit to make it a 2-2 contest.

Minnesota wasted little time regaining the lead as Toby Hanson hit a lead-off home run in the fourth to make it a 3-2 game.

Once again, TCU battled back to tie the game in the seventh. Adam Oviedo led off the inning with his second hit of the night and was standing on third with one out. Coby Boulware grounded out to tie the game at three.

Three batters into the eighth inning, Minnesota had the lead once again as two doubles around an infield single made it a 4-3 ballgame. A bases-loaded sacrifice fly pushed the lead to two, 5-3. The Golden Gophers added another run in the ninth to account for the final score.

Jared Janczak started and got the no-decision after allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits. He walked two and struck out four.
