TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona completed the comeback with a goal in the 81st minute, handing TCU a 2-1 loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Emma Heckendorn’s fifth goal of the season was TCU’s first-ever NCAA Tournament tally.
The Rundown
TCU weathered an early storm from Arizona in the first half, helped by a diving save from Katie Lund in the 11th minute. She finished the frame with two saves.
The Frogs found their footing in the middle portion of the first half and eventually turned it into a 1-0 lead. Arizona was whistled for a foul about 35 yards from goal. Kayla Hill’s free kick was right on target for Tijana Djuricek. She headed the ball right to the foot of Heckendorn, who knocked it in for the lead.
Arizona took over in the second half, pumping nine shots towards goal, seven of which were on goal. Lund made five saves in the half.
The Wildcats scored the equalizer in the 75th minute off a corner kick. Jada Talley’s feed into the six-yard box bounced around before Samantha Falasco eventually knocked it over the line for a tie game.
Just over six minutes later, what looked like a harmless shot from distance found the far corner of the goal as Cali Crisler put the Wildcats on top, 2-1.

“I thought after the first 20 minutes the game settled down. We were able to find some people in some good spots. We changed the point of attack and once we passed the midfield line then there was a lot of space for us to run into and pass too. We were able to come away with a nice set piece goal and went into the half with the lead.
In the second half, we didn’t have it. We didn’t have the ball much and we defended a lot. They had the momentum for much of the half and it was hard for us to get ahold of it. With that we kind of struggled and weren’t able to get ahold of the ball and build much of an attack. So, credit to them.”
On the future:
“I think that for us as a program and where we are, it was great for us to get here and score a goal for the first time in program history. Now we have to figure out how to win the game. We’ve been here for six years and have made the NCAA Tournament each of the last two years. We are going to try and build on that. I told the kids at the end of the game that I’m very proud of them for what they’ve done, especially the senior class and what they’ve done for our program.”
