GoFrogs: Frogs Unselfish in 107-81 Win

Box Score

WERRIBEE, Victoria, Australia -- Sophomore guard Desmond Bane led TCU with 21 points off the bench as the Horned Frogs defeated the Longhorns 107-81 Sunday afternoon at Eagle Stadium.

Bane was 8-of-16 from the field including 4-of-8 from 3-point range. He added four assists and six steals. As a team, TCU had 15 steals to go with an impressive 32 assists to just seven turnovers.

"We had some good runs in there," said head coach Jamie Dixon. "We were playing a lot of different combinations to give some guys opportunities. I think that was the most important thing. I'd like to play better for 40 minutes, all coaches would, but we certainly did some good things."

TCU led 51-39 at halftime, but outscored the Longhorns, 38-12, in the third quarter. The Frogs recorded an assist on 14 of their 15 made field goals. Senior guard Kenrich Williams had five of the 14 assists. He finished with seven assists to go with 12 points and five rebounds.

A 25-3 scoring run by TCU gave the Frogs their largest lead of the game, 89-48, with 1:05 left in the third quarter.

Junior guard Alex Robinson had a great all-around game with 19 points, eight assists, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Junior forward JD Miller has impressed Dixon as of late. He finished with 11 points and four rebounds.

"I think JD Miller is really the guy that has stood out with the way he's playing," said Dixon. "He's doing a lot of things we need him to do. He's playing a little bit more physical inside and he's finishing around the rim a little bit more. That's going to allow him to play some other spots for us."

Redshirt freshman Kouat Noi has recorded at least 10 points in all four games of TCU's Australian tour. The Australia native finished with 16 points and nine rebounds on Sunday.

"Kouat has played well," said Dixon. "(Ahmed) Hamdy has given us some good production. He's rebounded well and finished around the basket well."

Hamdy finished with six points and five rebounds, four on the offensive glass.

TCU will be off from basketball on Monday to see the sights of Melbourne. The Frogs will play their final game on Tuesday at 8 PM AES/5 AM CT against the Knox Raiders at State Basketball Centre. The team will depart for Fort Worth on Wednesday.

NOTABLE
- Senior guard Dalton Dry missed his second consecutive game Sunday after suffering a back injury in the game against Centre of Excellence on Thursday.
- Prior to the game, a local woman sang both the Australian and United States national anthem. Despite her best effort to learn the Star-Spangled Banner two weeks prior to the game, she froze midway through the song. The TCU team, standing behind her at the free throw line, picked up where she left off and finished the anthem in unison.
- There were no names provided on the roster or in the scorebook for the Longhorns, only numbers. First and last names were assigned 30 minutes prior to tip by the TCU statistician. No minutes were kept.

How cool is that?

Yes, very cool, I still like the Aussie variation on our national anthem in the '00 film The Dish, made about $12 but starred Sam Neill, good quirky fun.
