GoFrogs: Beach VB loses pair to Cal Poly, Arizona
PISMO BEACH, Calif. -- In its seventh and eighth consecutive matches against ranked opponents Saturday at Pismo Beach, California, the TCU beach volleyball team dropped a pair of 4-1 decisions to No. 6 Cal Poly and No. 10 Arizona.
Jordan Westendorff and Brooke Sassin beat Cal Poly's Heather Pembroke/Macy Gordon 18-21, 21-19, 15-8 for the Horned Frogs' only victory in the match over the nationally ranked Mustangs in the second meeting of the two teams this season, while Molly Scheel and Jensyn Bledsoe lost a narrow decision to Cal Poly's Adlee Van Winden/Taylor Nelson 22-20, 21-17.
Against the Wildcats, Scheel/Bledsoe, playing No. 1's for the first time this season, defeated Mia Mason/Makenna Martin 21-13, 21-19, while playing at No. 4, TCU's Cassie House and Haven Hill took U of A's Olivia Hallaran/Kacey Nady to three sets before dropping the 21-18, 20-22, 9-15 decision. Westendorff/Sassin lost a tough 21-17, 21-18 match to Hailey Devlin/Stephany Purdue.
The Horned Frogs are back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they meet Florida Gulf Coast, UAB, South Carolina and UNC-Wilmington in the Gamecock Challenge in Columbia, South Carolina.
