GoFrogs: Baseball Wins Big, Tops SFA 15-5

FORT WORTH -- TCU scored in bunches Tuesday night en route to a 15-5 victory over Stephen F. Austin. Six Horned Frogs posted multi-hit games, while seven collected at least one RBI in the victory.

The Rundown
Russell Smith (3-2) put together a solid night on the mound, posting career bests of 6.0 innings pitched and tying his career-high with six strikeouts. He allowed a trio of runs on five hits and walked one. Prior to a one out single in the fifth, Smith retired 12 straight batters.

The Lumberjacks took advantage of a lead-off double in the first two get on the board with an early run. With runners on the corners with one out, Josh Evans grounded out to give SFA the 1-0 lead.

TCU wasted little time taking the lead. The Horned Frogs sent 10 men to the plate and scored five times to open up a four-run lead. Colton Parrish led off the inning with a base hit. Three straight singles with one out from Michael Landestoy, Johnny Rizer and Adam Oviedo had the Frogs in front 2-1. Conner Shepherd worked a bases-loaded walk and Coby Boulware singled for a 4-1 lead. Connor Wanhanen's sacrifice fly capped the scoring.

The Frogs tacked on two more runs in the fourth. Landestoy doubled home Watson and scored on a double from Rizer for a 7-1 lead.

In the fifth, TCU took advantage of six walks to score seven times. Colton Parrish drove in the first run of the inning with a groundout. A.J. Balta had a two-run single followed by a Landestoy RBI-groundout. Conner Shepherd cleared the bases with a three-run triple for a 14-1 lead. Balta's triple in the sixth accounted for the final TCU run of the game.

Stephen F. Austin picked up a couple of runs each in the sixth and seventh inning to make it a 15-5 ballgame.

Augie Mihlbauer (1 IP, 2 ER), Trey Morris (1 2/3 IP, 2 K) and Dion Henderson (1/3, 1 K) tossed the final three innings for the Frogs.

TCU scored a season-high 15 runs in the game. It was the seventh time this year the Frogs have reached double-digits in runs scored.

Michael Landestoy picked up his 13th multi-hit game of the season and the 19th of his career.
• Landestoy registered his eighth multi-RBI game of the year and the 13th of his career.
Johnny Rizer tallied his fourth career multi-hit game and his second career multi-RBI contest.
Conner Shepherd recorded a career-high four RBIs for his second career multi-RBI game.
• Shepherd posted his seventh career multi-hit game.

Next Up
With the win, TCU improves to 20-17 on the season. The Horned Frogs wrap up a four-game homestand this weekend when they host No. 4 Texas Tech. Friday's nationally-televised game is set for an 8 p.m. first pitch. The game is set to air on FS1.
