Diehards: TCU ready to embrace challenges of playing in Lubbock

FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU football hasn’t exactly had it easy on the road Texas Tech. Just ask coach Gary Patterson, who recalled taking a frozen water bottle to the head when the Horned Frogs last visited Lubbock, Texas, in 2015.
“It’s a lovely relationship we have there,” Patterson said during his weekly press conference.
On Saturday, the Horned Frogs will return to Jones AT&T Stadium for the first time since pulling off a miraculous 55-52 win over the Red Raiders in the final minute of play — the team’s lone win in Lubbock since 1991.
Other results haven’t been nearly as kind to the Horned Frogs. TCU allowed a record-high 70 points under Patterson in a 35-point loss at Texas Tech in 2004. In 2013, the Horned Frogs fell to Texas Tech 20-10 in a game plagued by officiating controversy — the team’s only other Big 12 contest in Lubbock.
