NORMAN — Sleep hasn't been easy to come by for Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops this season.
This week, his sleep patterns might've been a little more skewed as he faced the prospect of starting four true freshman — three making their first career starts — against the No. 6 team in the country.
But Stoops' defense, much maligned recently as they struggled to slow down the league's high-flying passing attacks, came through Saturday's 38-20 win over TCU with a strong performance on the back end, helped by three first-time starters in the secondary.
“It's a very uncomfortable situation playing four true freshmen,” Stoops said. “I don't know if it's ever been done here at Oklahoma. But that's the position we were in.”
