Has anyone seen my specialty plates?

Sounds like her predetermined favorite children's book will be:

Glad she did so well. That is not a minor surgery and she sounds like a real trooper. I suspect she was at Texas Children's at the Texas Medical Center. I know a lot of people there and it is a great place for these types of issues. Glad she is doing so well and a very cool story to remember the great news.
Thanks for the update and congrats to your whole family!

Thanks Doc, I appreciate it. And yeah, it's a major surgery. If she was born anytime in human history outside of this most recent era of modern medicine (50 years?), she would've just died because they couldn't diagnose/fix it.

Crazy to think about

And we were in the Med Center, but at Children's Memorial Hermann, not Texas Children's. They're both fantastic... one of my best friends has a 2.5 month old little girl that was born 3 lbs 3 oz and was just able to go home in the last month from TX Children's. They had great things to say about TCH.

I can't even put into words how fantastic everyone at Children's Memorial Hermann has been. Extremely competent, extremely specialized, and extremely caring/attentive. I couldn't recommend them any more highly to anyone that is put into a situation like that. We are lucky that's where we were set to deliver anyway (and live 6 miles from it)... there were families in the NICU with us from around the country that came there specifically because they needed the specialists at CMH for their child's condition.

I have a whole new respect for Labor & Delivery nurses and NICU nurses. Even though they do this every day and I imagine it's easy to get bogged down in the routineness of it all, every one of them treated Ruby (and us) with the attention they would treat a family member.

Sorry for going on and on about this, it's just my process and I'm still in a little shock from the whole thing.

GO FROGS!!

Glad to hear you're in good hands. Makes that process much more tolerable when you have confidence in those handling, evaluating, and treating your child.

When we were in Children's Dallas, as bad as your Childs situation is, it doesn't take long to look around and realize there are many more in much worse shape.

It's a very sad yet beautiful place to be. Lots of heartbreaking conditions, and lots of miracles.

We just did the same. Good stuff.

It's a big day around our household. First day of Kindergarten, and I'm heading out in a bit to go pick up our new family member... a 9 week-old male black lab. After losing both of our dogs earlier this year we're finally ready for another one. We've hinted to the kids that maybe Santa would bring us one for Christmas, so they're going to be thrilled when they get home today and find me with their new brother.

We're not set on a name yet, but Carter (leader in the clubhouse), Davey, Dutch and Deuce may be in play. I'd like to just go with Gary but my wife isn't a huge fan of that name for a dog... I think it's perfect. LT would work as well, IMO. Open to suggestions...
I had to miss the kids' first day of first grade at their new school. Damn work.

Granted I was playing golf with clients on long island. But still. Damn work.

I had a good friend at TCU who was a nurse at Children's in Dallas in the NICU. It's an emotional toll on those nurses. To be good at that job you have to emotionally invest in the patients, but when so many of them don't pull through it wears them out emotionally. It takes special people to do that job well for a long time.

Thrilled to hear the news about Ruby.

I've always heard that 2-syllable names are easier for a dog to learn/respond to, so Carter, Davey, LT, or Andy would be good.

Lilly would be a great name for a female dog. Other options for a male... Tank, Bo, Peanut, Tejay, Bram, Bumpas, Swink, Thor, Finny... The options are plentiful. Hard to go wrong on this one.

ETA: I think Chucky could be a good dog name too. Always loved that guy.

I went out of my way to really really thank the nurses and the doctors and let them know how much they meant to us and how fantastic they are. I started crying in front of them while thanking them on multiple occasions.

I've always been a cryer and that certainly didn't change this weekend. It's weird though which moments the tears decided to come. You could've listed out about 30 different moments over the course of the weekend and asked me to guess which ones I would cry at, and I'm fairly certain I would've failed that test.

Weird deal

Yeah. I'm the same way. Sometimes it makes sense, but other times I wonder what the hell has me so emotional. I didn't cry when my mom was told she had a 15% chance to live another 6 months, but I can't seem to hold it together singing some hymns at church. I didn't cry when my boys were born, but a good HoF induction speech will make me look like a woman watching Hope Floats.

The kind of gratitude you showed goes a long way for those doctors and nurses. Good on ya.

The kids liked Carter, so it's Carter! Everyone is fired up.

Carter is home! The surprise worked perfectly and everyone is in love with our new little buddy.

He's going to be a big boy. His Dad is a great looking 100 pounder and his Mom is a beautiful 75 lbs. Here they are as well:

The kids didn't want to leave him to go to bed. Now, we'll see how the night goes!

Don't see any of those photos. You can't just use the upload feature?

Photobucket no longer allows 3rd party hosting. They suck.

Wish I would've known that before with it. Ha.

Upload feature isn't working for some reason. I'll give it another shot in the a.m. I slept about 4.5 hours last night and have a feeling tonight might not be much better. G'night!

scheissing Wes with his Nazi upload scheissing upload scheissing picture rules. What the scheiss.

Just scheissing with ya Wes. But seriously Wes, as Mr. Wolf would say...Pretty please with sugar on it...fix the scheissing upload process.

And Sean McConnell is the boat. And yea...Wes probably hasn't ventured in here in years, thank goodness.
